Over a Billion pounds were spent in this summer transfer window. Teams have addressed their weakness, overhauled their system and broken transfer records – in a bid to improve their team. Here is our list of the most significant transfers this summer, in this record breaking window!
Juventus to Manchester United
This was THE transfer saga of this summer’s transfer window. The twists and turns and the statement from Pogba’s ‘super’ agent Mino Raiola, there was no certainty to which club Paul Pogba would end up playing this season. And amongst all this, it was Manchester United who won the race to sign up Paul Pogba for a record breaking fees. Many sections of football have suggested that United have over paid for the services of Paul Pogba, but the fact remains that Pogba is one of the top young talents in world football and he has an equally significant on and off field impact in terms of commercial revenue. Paul Pogba’s move from Juventus to Manchester United is the transfer of the summer window 2016.
Napoli to Juventus
On selling Paul Pogba, Juventus had a cash abundance. Also, Real Madrid resigned Alvaro Morata from Juventus, so they were in need of reinforcement in attack as well. Juventus then went on to sign Seria A rivals SSC Napoli’s main man – Gonzalo Higuain. Higuain had just come off from a very productive season with Napoli, scoring goals in abundance. IT was a record fee spent by any Seria A club to sign on single player.
Everton to Manchester City
John Stone’s move from Everton to Manchester City makes him the most expensive English player. Stone’s is a young promising center back who is known for being a good distributor of the ball, something which is essential in the new city boss Pep Guardiola’s philosophy. Even though Stone’s was an expensive buy, his young age and potential are worth the risk. If he manages to play to standards he’s expected to, Manchester City have a long term solution in the middle of the defense.
Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich
In his early days, Mats Hummels was a Bayern Munich academy player, who was let go by them. Borussia Dortmund, Bayern’s biggest rival and competitors in the league, took him up initially on loan, making the deal permanent the following season. At Dortmund, he turned into one of the finest center backs in the world, becoming the first choice for his country Germany as well. This summer, Hummels has moved back to the club where he started off, Bayern. This transfer has raised eyes on Borussia Dortmund’s player retention policy
Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United
In the past decade, whenever there is a discussion of the best strikers in the world, Zlatan Ibrahimović has never been far from the discussion. He’s truly one of a kind, with his technique and ability, not to forget his capability on providing the spectacular on the pitch as well as in the press conference! After his successful stints in Swedish, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and French league, Zlatan has finally arrived to the English Premier League with his move from PSG to Manchester United! Entertainment guaranteed!
AS Roma to Juventus
Miralem Pjanić has been a house hold name since his Lyon days. The Bosnian known for his technique and dead ball ability made a name for himself with AS Roma in the Seria A. He became one of the pillars of the team. With Pogba gone to United, Juventus had big boots to fill in the middle of the midfield. They turned to Miralem Pjanić signing him for big money from their Seria A rivals. He’s acquainted to the league and is a guaranteed performer. Has the look of a good business for Juventus.
Leicester City to Chelsea
The rise of N’golo Kante is no short of a fairy tale. He moved from the French league to relegation candidates Leicester City as a relatively unknown entity. What happened next no football expert or fan could’ve predicted. Leicester City went on to win the league in spectacular fashion and N’golo Kante was one of the reasons behind this phenomenal success. The midfield enforcers interception rate made people draw comparison with the legend Claude Makélélé and won him praises from all corners of the footballing fraternity. His performances got him into the French national team and this was followed by a big money transfer from Leicester City to Premier League giants Chelsea.
Valencia to Barcelona
Valencia didn’t exactly have the best of campaigns last season, but that didn’t have any effect on Andre Gomes’s career graph. The young Portugese attacker, known for his skill and neat footwork put in some stellar performances for Valencia, also during the summer he went on to win the UEFA Euro 2016 in France. He was in the radar of a lot of top clubs but Barcelona came through and won his signature. He’s been tipped by the Barcelona as ‘One for the Future’.
Borussia Mönchengladbach to Arsenal
For years, Arsenal fans have been screaming for a ball playing midfield enforcer. Arsenal midfield has never been the same since the likes of Emmanuel Petit, Patrick Viera and Gilberto Silva left the club. But the arrival of Granit Xakha is something that will excite the Arsenal fans. The Swiss born midfielder is known for his aggressive ball winning and his range of passing has drawn comparison with midfield legend Xabi Alonso. He’s also known to be a bit of a leader on the pitch. Arsenal have got a gem of a player in Granit Xakha.
Manchester City to Torino
Joe Hart is the England number one keeper. The premier league winner was one of the leaders of the City dressing room. But he did not fit the plans of Pep Guardiola, who wasted no time in getting him off. Even though it is just a loan move, Joe Hart will play 2016/17 season in Seria A midtable team Torino. This isn’t a top transfer exactly, but is one of the most shocking moves in this season.
Lyon to Barcelona
Samuel Umtiti is a young French center back, brought up in Lyon academy. Highly rated in the French football circuit, he has been tipped to do great things in near future. Banking on his potential, Barcelona have signed him from Lyon, hoping to find a long term solution at center back position in Samuel Umtiti.
Schalke 04 to Manchester City
One of the most exciting German prospects, young Leroy Sané is a winger who was plying his trade in Germany at Schalke. Based with blistering pace and surreal close control, Sane caught the attention of the German and the global media very quickly. With the new ‘Pep Revolution’ at City, Sané was one of the top targets for Manchester City this season. They acquired his services for big money but considering his young age and the amount of skill he possesses, in the long run Sane might prove to be a great signing.
Stade Rennes to Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund has secured the services of one of the most sought after football talents throughout Europe on a long term basis: Ousmane Dembélé. He has secured a big money move from Rennes to Dortmund. Blessed with surreal pace and crazy skills, at the young age of 19, sky is the limit for Dembélé . Even during the pre-season, he has managed to grab a lot of attention from football fans across the world.
