Practice is what will make you great at passing, however here are some pointers that you must work on to improve your passing.
There are various techniques using which you can make the pass. Each of these techniques opens up a new possibility depending upon the situation in which it is used. It is important to have these techniques in one’s arsenal.
This part of your foot has the most surface area, which gives you more accuracy and control. It is the most useful part of your foot while passing the ball. Try and connect with the middle of the ball and turn your hips to the side while kicking the ball.
The upper edge of the inside portion of your foot is used in this technique to bend the ball. as in when you wrap your foot around the ball so it curves into your teammate’s feet or into the desired areas where you want to deliver a cross .
There can be moments in the game where your body is not in a position to make the pass using the inside of your foot. In such situations you can strike the ball with the outside. This technique can be used to flick the ball or to make a surprise pass. You do not have to turn your body to pass the ball like you do when passing with inside of the foot. This technique should not be over used since the accuracy can get compromised in the out-foot pass.
You can use this technique when you want to drive the ball into a teammate. You don’t need to follow through, but strike the ball sharply and stop the follow through as soon as you connect with the ball so that it takes flight and reaches the player directly.
The technique used is similar to the instep drive but with lesser force on the ball. It requires a soft touch as you are trying to lift the ball and generate back spin so that the ball stops in the area you are aiming for.
By fine-tuning, these techniques can help you become a better passer.

Time and space on the pitch can make a huge difference to your passing game. The more you have, the better will be your pass selection. Moving into space before receiving a pass is what buys you time. So always be on the move, run into free spaces and be ready to receive the ball and make a telling pass.
Awareness of your surrounding is a very important factor. You must know your teammates’ and your opposing players’ position. Look around before receiving the ball. It will help you make a better pass selection. Communicating constantly with your teammates is good way of improving your awareness.
Before receiving the ball, have an idea where you want to pass the ball next. This helps you to make a quick pass or adjust yourself according to the pass that you are going to play. It is not necessary that the forward pass is always the right choice. Thinking and analyzing the situation on the pitch (always) is a good habit that will make you movement and passes decisive once you have possession.
While releasing the ball, make sure you connect with proper technique. Do not under or over hit the pass as it can make it difficult for the receiving player to control the ball or it can be intercepted leading to loss of possession.
