The Two Escobars is a story about two Colombians. One is a football player, other a drug lord. The player, Andres Escobar, led the Colombian national team to new heights at the football pitch, and helped them become the surprise package of the 1994 World Cup. The drug lord, Pablo Escobar, led Colombia into a war on the streets as rival drug cartels fought a bloody battle for supremacy. The tale of two men whose lives crossed paths, and changed a country, a national team and a sport forever. It is riveting, emotional and powerful. A must watch.
The movie focuses on Colin Firth as Paul Ashworth, a north London school teacher. He is a die-hard Arsenal fan who falls for a fellow teacher Sarah Hughes played by Ruth Gemmell. The movie documents Ashworth’s attempts to stabilize his two love lives – Sarah and Arsenal as they continually clashed.
Based on David Pearce’s 2007 novel, the film stars Michael Sheen as Clough, and Timothy Spall as his right hand man, Peter Taylo. The Damned United follows the story of eccentric football manager, Brian Clough, through his success at Derby County and his 44 days in charge of Leeds United.
The story centers around a group of allied prisoners of war who are challenged for a football match by the German officers. Unknown to them is an escape plan being made by the prisoners to coincide with the match. Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Pele and Bobby Moore come together for this classic football movie from 1981. The film is an interpretation of a 1961 Hungarian film called “Two Halftimes in Hell.” That film was inspired by true events that took place in Ukraine during WWII.
