EUROs : UEFA XI vs spyn XI. Which team would come out on top?
Rui Patricio has had a stellar euro. He made 20 saves, kept 3 clean sheets and conceded only 5 goals on the road to the finals. Portugal won the Euros by winning only 1 game in 90 minutes! And Rui Patricio had to keep his team in the game for long spells! He deserves the Goalkeeping spot in the best Euro XI.
Joshua Kimmich was not the first choice right back at the beginning of the Euros but by the end of Germany’s run, he made the right back spot his own. Always available on the right flank, Kimmich not only provided good cover in defense but also contributed in attack. He had a pass completion rate of 87% and won 7 tackles. He looks like the perfect replacement for the now retired legend – Philp Lahm.
We have chosen Italy’s Leonardo Bonucci as the center back instead of Jérôme Boateng . The Italian defense was probably the best of all the others on display at the Euros. Unlike Germany and the other top nations, Italy didn’t exactly have the best of attacking options and relied heavily on their defense to see the games out. Leonardo Bonucci was Italy’s stand out defender. He made 16 interceptions and 31 clearances. Not to forget the crucial equalizing penalty against Germany which took the game to extra time and penalties. A Center back. Taking penalties. Talk about composure.
The seasoned center back Pepe was one of the major reasons for Portugal’s Euro Triumph. He was at the heart of the water tight Portuguese defense that kept the door shut for long spells making 19 interceptions, 40 clearances with winning 4 tackles!
The young French born Portuguese left back had a break through summer in France. He produced a stellar performance down the left flank, making 14 interceptions, 17 clearances and providing 1 assist, contributing both, in attack and defense, also his quality set pieces.
Germany’s creator in chief along with Mesut Özil was at his usual best this tournament. With the pass completion rate of 92% and 1 assist, he sprayed passes all across the pitch and delivered quality set pieces throughout the tournament.
Aaron Ramsey was probably one of players of this tournament. With 15 chances created, 4 assists and 1 goal at this Euro, he was the main creator of Welsh’s historic run in this competition. He missed the semi-finals due to suspension and his team dearly missed him.
We have chosen the assist king Mesut Özil over Joe Allen for the final midfield spot. Mesut Özil was in the top 3 chance creators in this tournament. With the pass completion rate of 89%, Özil created 18 chances with 17 key passes, made one assists and scored a goals as well. He also made the highest number of successful through balls and was officially named Die Mannschaft’s best player at Euro 2016.
Goals, Goals, Goals and Goals! Antoine Griezmann netted 6 goals this tournament, leading his team all the way to the finals. His overall link up play with his teammates, 2 assists, 13 chances created and his red hot form in front of the goal at the Euros 2016 made him one of the stand out players of the tournament.
Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the UEFA Euro 2016 title wearing the captains arm band even though he couldn’t contribute much in the finals due to injury during the game. On the way to the finals Ronaldo scored 3 goals and provided 2 assist. He took a tournament highest 45 shots with 85% pass completion rate and created 10 chances. Apart from the goals and assists, his presence was a galvanizing factor for Portugal which was central to their success at the Euros in France.
We have chosen Gareth Bale over Dimitri Payet in the attacking role. Gareth Bale along with Aaron Ramsey lead Wales all the way to their historic semi-finals run. With his 6 chances created, 3 goals and 1 assist along with the breath-taking runs, the Welsh hero was one of the best performers at the Euros .
